Repairing Car Scratches

It is quite common for a car to get scratches and dents. If the scratch is not too deep, you can repair it by using a touch-up paint. However, if the scratch is too large, it requires the use of paint sprayers done by an expert. When it comes to repairing car scratches, the first thing to do is determine whether the car paint is enameled. If it is, the vehicle needs professional attention.

Here are some tips on how to repair car scratches:

• Choose the body compound and primer paint that will match your vehicle. Light color is best applicable in covering the touch-up paint in just one coat. Primer is commonly labeled for automobile use and in spray can form.
• Wash lightly the surface that would affect the bonding of the paint when it is applied to repair the scratch. You can use mild laundry detergent in cleaning the scratch and its surroundings.
• You need fine grained sand paper to take away the rust. After that, blow all dust in the area where sanding occurs. You can also use a brush.
• Before paining, put newspaper and tape-off the area, leaving about a half-inch working room around the scratch.
• Use a plastic putty knife to apply body compound to the scratch that's deep into the metal.
• Once the compound is hardened, sand the body to make it flat and smooth.
• Spray a small amount of primer paint to the scratch and let it dry overnight.
• Spraying touch up paint is next. Remember to avoid brushing as it could cause unsightly marks to occur within the paint.
• When everything is done, remove the paper and let the paint dry overnight.
